DC reform meetings held

The Government held exchange meetings on the theme of improving the district governance system and reforming the District Councils (DCs) at the Central Government Offices today.   Over 80 Hong Kong Special Administrative Region deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) and Hong Kong SAR members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) were there to exchange views on improving the district governance system and supporting the District Council election.   Chief Executive John Lee noted that it is the first major citywide election after improving the district governance system and reforming the DCs, and is of particular significance.   He said it also marks the final mile for the full implementation of the principle of “patriots administering Hong Kong” in the district governance structure.   The Chief Executive also noted that the election is of great significance to the good governance and the long-term st

Construction worker virus tests extended

The one-off free voluntary COVID-19 testing service provided to all construction site workers in Hong Kong will continue until March 31 and those who are eligible can book online from today.   The Food & Health Bureau said the Government started to provide a one-off free voluntary COVID-19 testing service to construction site workers at community testing centres through online booking in February and the response has been positive.   Having considered the ongoing epidemic situation in the city, the bureau considered it necessary to expand and extend the testing arrangements.   The construction site workers who received testing in February can make bookings again.   Eligible people should book in advance for the free testing service via the community testing centre booking system. Those who did not do so have to pay $240 for the service.   When arriving at the community testing centre at the designated time slot, construction site workers should present the identity document used at the time of booking, the SMS booking confirmation and their construction worker registration card issued by the Construction Industry Council for verification.   Apart from the community testing centres, citizens can continue to utilise other free testing channels provided by the Government.
