DC reform meetings held

The Government held exchange meetings on the theme of improving the district governance system and reforming the District Councils (DCs) at the Central Government Offices today.   Over 80 Hong Kong Special Administrative Region deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) and Hong Kong SAR members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) were there to exchange views on improving the district governance system and supporting the District Council election.   Chief Executive John Lee noted that it is the first major citywide election after improving the district governance system and reforming the DCs, and is of particular significance.   He said it also marks the final mile for the full implementation of the principle of “patriots administering Hong Kong” in the district governance structure.   The Chief Executive also noted that the election is of great significance to the good governance and the long-term st

HK reports 7 COVID-19 cases

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating seven additional COVID-19 cases, of which six are imported and one is epidemiologically linked with a local case.   The linked case involves a 20-year-old student who is the sister of the case announced on June 5.   As a close contact, she was sent to a quarantine centre on June 4. She developed a cough, runny nose and diarrhoea on the same day and was admitted to hospital the next day.   The test result by the Department of Health’s Public Health Laboratory Services Branch revealed that she carried the N501Y mutant strain but not the L452R or E484K mutant gene. The Government required relevant people to undergo compulsory testing yesterday.   The centre added that the patient had not received a COVID-19 vaccine.   A total of 26 cases were reported in Hong Kong in the past 14 days, including two local cases of which one is from unknown sources.   For information and health advice on COVID-19, visit the Government's dedicated webpage.
