DC reform meetings held

The Government held exchange meetings on the theme of improving the district governance system and reforming the District Councils (DCs) at the Central Government Offices today.   Over 80 Hong Kong Special Administrative Region deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) and Hong Kong SAR members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) were there to exchange views on improving the district governance system and supporting the District Council election.   Chief Executive John Lee noted that it is the first major citywide election after improving the district governance system and reforming the DCs, and is of particular significance.   He said it also marks the final mile for the full implementation of the principle of “patriots administering Hong Kong” in the district governance structure.   The Chief Executive also noted that the election is of great significance to the good governance and the long-term st

Construction Safety Week starts

Secretary for Development Michael Wong today opened Construction Safety Week 2021 which will run until August 6.   Themed Safety x Smart Site, the event features a conference, visits to construction sites with exemplary safety performance, and the Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme award presentation ceremony.   Addressing the launch ceremony, Mr Wong said innovation and technology is an important driving force for the construction industry’s development, and the Government has been actively promoting its application. He appealed to the industry to fully utilise the benefits of innovation and technology to raise construction safety, with a view to creating a safer and healthier working environment.   The ceremony was followed by the Construction Safety Week Conference, where local experts discussed emerging technologies, application of smart safety devices, and good practice for site safety improvement, attracting over 2,500 Hong Kong as well as overseas practitioners who participated at the venue or online.   A mini exhibition showcasing smart safety devices was also held at the venue.   Construction Safety Week is jointly organised by the Development Bureau and the Construction Industry Council.
