Xu Bing named cultural ambassador

Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung has appointed Chinese contemporary artist Xu Bing as Ambassador for Cultural Promotion for about five years starting today.    As Ambassador for Cultural Promotion, Mr Xu will initiate a series of large-scale art projects in Hong Kong and nurture young talent to promote cultural development.   The Culture, Sports & Tourism Bureau said the appointment aims to extend the Ambassador for Cultural Promotion scheme to other fields of arts, after Chinese composer, musician and conductor Tan Dun became Hong Kong’s first Ambassador for Cultural Promotion last year.   Speaking at the appointment ceremony today, Mr Yeung said Mr Xu is widely recognised as one of the most innovative and influential Chinese contemporary artists.   The culture chief added that the Museum of Art collected one of Mr Xu's most well-known works A Book from the Sky, which contains both traditional and contemporary elements, just like Hong Kong

Pupils to get same-day jab tickets

The Government today announced that its same-day ticket arrangement for COVID-19 vaccination will be expanded to cover students aged 12 or above starting August 27.   Tickets will be distributed at 24 community vaccination centres (CVCs) so that students can receive COVID-19 jabs at a designated timeslot on the day of ticket distribution.   The same-day ticket arrangement was first introduced for people aged 70 or above and was later extended to cover people aged 60 or older.   As the arrangement has been running smoothly, the Government decided to extend it to cover students studying at primary and secondary schools as well as post-secondary institutions with the aim of assisting students and their parents who have not yet received their jabs.   Each student can be accompanied by a maximum of two people to receive vaccination. The companions can also get vaccinated together.   The same-day tickets will be distributed daily from 7.45am on a first-come, first-served basis.   Eligible people can present their Hong Kong identity card to get a same-day ticket at the CVCs. They can also authorise their family members or carers to collect a ticket on their behalf by presenting a copy of the authoriser's identity card or school attendance documents for registration.   Those aged 12 to 17 are also required to bring along a consent form signed by their parents for getting vaccinated.   The schedule for receiving the second dose will be provided when the student or senior citizen gets the first jab.   About 4,600 same-day tickets will be given out daily at the 24 CVCs in August.   Due to the limited capacity of the venues, the CVCs at Tung Chung Community Hall and Hong Kong International Airport will each distribute 100 tickets per day, while other CVCs, except those run by private hospitals, will each distribute 200 tickets per day.   The CVCs at Queen Elizabeth Stadium, Ap Lei Chau Sports Centre and the airport will distribute the tickets until August 31.
