DC reform meetings held

The Government held exchange meetings on the theme of improving the district governance system and reforming the District Councils (DCs) at the Central Government Offices today.   Over 80 Hong Kong Special Administrative Region deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) and Hong Kong SAR members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) were there to exchange views on improving the district governance system and supporting the District Council election.   Chief Executive John Lee noted that it is the first major citywide election after improving the district governance system and reforming the DCs, and is of particular significance.   He said it also marks the final mile for the full implementation of the principle of “patriots administering Hong Kong” in the district governance structure.   The Chief Executive also noted that the election is of great significance to the good governance and the long-term st

Study subsidy to launch

The Government today announced that it will subsidise, via the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors, 2,501 places in 32 sub-degree programmes of eight post-secondary institutions for the cohort to be admitted in the 2022-23 academic year.   The 32 designated sub-degree programmes fall under six disciplines identified as having keen manpower demand, namely architecture and engineering, computer science, creative industries, health care, sports and recreation, and tourism and hospitality.   In the 2022-23 academic year, the annual subsidy amount for laboratory-based sub-degree programmes will be increased to $38,520 from $38,400 in the 2021-22 academic year, while that for non-laboratory-based sub-degree programmes will be increased to $22,120 from $22,050.   The adjusted subsidy amounts are applicable to both new and current students who are eligible.   For admission to the designated sub-degree programmes under the scheme, students may apply directly to the institutions.   The designated undergraduate programmes under the scheme in the 2022-23 academic year including the number of places and subsidy amounts were announced on September 21.   Click here for details.
