Health chief meets GD delegation

Secretary for Health Prof Lo Chung-mau met a delegation led by Guangdong Provincial Medical Products Administration (GDMPA) General Director Jiang Xiaodong today, with both sides agreeing to further deepen collaboration in relevant areas.    Prof Lo said the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government expressed its sincere gratitude to the GDMPA for its staunch support for Hong Kong in the past, including the implementation of the initiatives of, among others, the measure of using Hong Kong registered drugs and medical devices used in Hong Kong public hospitals in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and streamlining of the approval procedures for Hong Kong registered traditional proprietary Chinese medicines (pCms) for external use to be registered and sold in the Mainland.   The Government and the GDMPA agreed at the meeting to further deepen collaboration on the regulation of Chinese medicines (CM), the formulation of Greater Bay Area Chinese medicine standards,

AI centre proposals invited

The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) today invited consultancy proposals for a feasibility study on the development of an artificial intelligence (AI) Supercomputing Centre in Hong Kong.   Financial Secretary Paul Chan announced in the 2023-24 Budget that a feasibility study would be conducted on the centre.   The Government is exploring the development of the centre as a major strategic technology infrastructure to provide AI supercomputing services to local universities, research institutes, government departments and industry sectors, with the aim of strengthening local research and development (R&D) capabilities, advancing related industry ecosystems, and accelerating the development of the AI industry and related R&D in Hong Kong.   The Government will carry out the feasibility study on the Supercomputing Centre and its related business model to assess and ascertain the demand for AI supercomputing services in the city, the scale of the required investment as well as the best operational model and implementation strategy.
