DC reform meetings held

The Government held exchange meetings on the theme of improving the district governance system and reforming the District Councils (DCs) at the Central Government Offices today.   Over 80 Hong Kong Special Administrative Region deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) and Hong Kong SAR members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) were there to exchange views on improving the district governance system and supporting the District Council election.   Chief Executive John Lee noted that it is the first major citywide election after improving the district governance system and reforming the DCs, and is of particular significance.   He said it also marks the final mile for the full implementation of the principle of “patriots administering Hong Kong” in the district governance structure.   The Chief Executive also noted that the election is of great significance to the good governance and the long-term st

Sun Dong to visit Switzerland

Secretary for Innovation, Technology & Industry Prof Sun Dong will depart for a visit to Switzerland tonight to promote exchanges and collaboration on innovation and technology (I&T) development between Hong Kong and Switzerland.   Prof Sun will make this trip to Geneva to support a Hong Kong delegation comprising around 500 representatives from universities, research and development centres, research laboratories, technology companies, government departments and secondary schools to participate in the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions 2023.   Hong Kong's I&T community will present a record-high 293 projects in total at the exhibition.   Prof Sun will also speak at a Hong Kong reception at the exhibition hosted by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.   During the trip, he will meet local I&T leaders and companies to introduce to them Hong Kong's latest I&T developments as well as investment and business opportunities.   He is also scheduled to visit local universities, research facilities and pharmaceutical companies.   Prof Sun will return to Hong Kong on the morning of April 30. During his absence, Under Secretary for Innovation, Technology & Industry Lillian Cheong will be Acting Secretary.
